The Portland Cement Association (PCA), which represents US cement producers, has joined the International Code Council and the Alliance for National & Community Resilience (ANCR) to create the first whole-community resiliency benchmarks in the US.
PCA donated US$25 000 to ANCR, a coalition of public and private organizations. ANCR’s whole-community resiliency benchmark aims to provide a self-assessment system for communities to quickly gauge their cross-sector resilience efforts.
“We are excited to welcome PCA in helping communities to prepare for the many challenges they face, from cast economic shifts to unprecedented environmental changes,” said ANCR’s Chairman, Warren C. Edwards, a retired major general in the US Army.
PCA “is joining a prestigious group of private and public enterprises, including the Dow Chemical Co. and Target Corp., who are dedicating money, time, and other resources to this important effort,” Edwards continued.
ANCR was cofounded by the International Code Council, which develops model codes and standards used in the design, build, and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable, affordable, and resilient structures, the Meridian Institute and the US Resiliency Council.
